Historic streetcars connect a musically tuned city to the Frankfurt Citizens’ Festival
As every year, concerts in the middle of the Römerberg, guided tours of museums, lectures and much more will put Frankfurt in a festive mood on German Unity Day . Not only will Germany be celebrating 34 years since reunification, but the sixth anniversary of Frankfurt’s new Old Town will also be in the spotlight. With the aim of combining tradition and modernity, the Main metropolis will be transformed into a single vibrant stage on October 3.
When it comes to tradition, the “Historische Straßenbahn der Stadt Frankfurt am Main e.V.” association also has something to say. L/l and N series vintage streetcars from 1956 and 1963 take part in the Old Town Festival and offer visitors a stylish journey. The vehicles commute every 45 minutes between Sachsenhausen Louisa station and Bornheim’s Ernst-May-Platz. They pass Stresemannallee, the main railway station (stop in Münchener Straße) and, of course, the Römer and Frankfurt Zoo. The trains run from approx. 12:30 to approx. 20:30.
All you need to travel on the historic trains is an RMV ticket valid for Frankfurt or the Germany ticket is required. The vehicles are not barrier-free and do not have a designated parking area for bicycles. To avoid blocked escape routes, which could save lives in an emergency, bicycles are not permitted on the historic vehicles.
There may be operational deviations from the route as well as from the timetable and vehicle deployment
