Jens Deck recalls the historic route of the 18
On October 4, Jens Deck will be presenting the history of streetcar line 18 from Praunheim/Brücke to Enkheim as part of the monthly HSF club evening. The presentation will be presented in classic slides and will start at the VGF depot in Eckenheim (Schwabstraße 18) at around 7 pm, although the actual lecture will not begin until 7:30 pm. If required, it will also be possible to purchase items from the HSF museum store during the evening.
Line 18 was opened in 1891 in the form of a horse-drawn tram line. Since then, its route has changed several times and it has also been discontinued in the meantime. In 1928, it reached the Praunheim district for the first time, and from 1957 it ended in Enkheim. In the meantime, its operation was interrupted due to the bombing raids during the Second World War. In 1986, the streetcar made way for the “rail-free city center” and left the city center, and in 1992 it was discontinued altogether. It was not until 2011 that the line name reappeared in the network map; since then, the 18 has been running via a new line to Preungesheim.
The HSF club evening usually takes place on the third Friday of the month, but had to be postponed in this case. Michael Völlinger will be visiting the clubhouse in November.
