With historic streetcars to the colorful district festival
Niederrad residents will be celebrating the 125th anniversary of the incorporation of their district into the city of Frankfurt am Main next weekend. Together with associations and initiatives, the Bezirksverein Niederrad e.V. is organizing a colourful festival for everyone - with music, culture, culinary delights and insights into the history of the district! The program, which can be viewed here [JPG, 363.79 kB], includes dance performances, information stands and a demonstration of a fire department operation.
The association "Historische Straßenbahn der Stadt Frankfurt am Main e. V." is also taking part in the district festival and bringing vintage streetcars onto the rails. This Saturday from around 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from around 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., two historic streetcars will run between the exhibition center and Haardtwaldplatz in Niederrad, connecting the festival with the main train station, among other places. Pt car 148 (ex. 748, built in 1978) is expected to be used every hour (60-minute intervals).
Not only does the HSF provide an ideal link to the district festival, the Museum Shop-on-Tour of the Frankfurt Transport Museum is also involved. During the shuttle service's travel times, the sale of its product range is housed in another historic streetcar in the turning loop at Haardtwaldplatz, the O-car 111 (ex. 902, built in 1969). From model trains and buses to specialist literature and wooden railroads, there is something for everyone.
Incidentally, in addition to the 125th anniversary of Niederrad's incorporation, this weekend also marks the 125th anniversary of the opening of streetcar line 15.
It is precisely this line that today connects Oberrad with Niederrad from Sachsenhausen and during rush hours. Inaugurated in 1900, the line ran from the former Hanau station in Ostend via Zoo, Zeil, Hauptbahnhof, Hippodrom to the Sandhof loop, which was also opened 125 years ago.
Update from 22.08.2025:
Unfortunately, there is only an hourly interval (60-minute interval).
And there is only one Pt car 148 (ex. 748, built in 1978).
The reason for this is:

The vehicles are not barrier-free and most of them do not have ramps or boarding aids. There are no spaces for wheelchairs. Bicycles and wheelchairs cannot be taken on board for safety reasons, in particular to keep escape routes clear. It is, however, possible to take walkers or baby carriages with the assistance of passengers or the driver.
Please note that there may be deviations from the timetable, route and vehicle deployment due to the traffic situation and for technical or operational reasons.
