10. August – 125 Jahre Depot Bockenheimer Warte - [ARCHIV]

The next anniversary is just around the corner.
The Bockenheim depot has now been in existence for 125 years.

Historic light rail and streetcar commuter service on the occasion of 125 years of the Bockenheim depot and the Days of Industrial Culture 2025.

Until the 1970s, Bockenheimer Königstraße, now Gräfstraße, was home to the Reifert wagon factory with production buildings to the left and right of the street, some of which were equipped with tracks. A siding led via Königstraße and Schöne Aussicht (today's Adalbertstraße) to Bockenheimer Bahnhof (Westbahnhof), where there was a loading facility. After the factory was closed, the area to the right of the road was used by FTG as a stabling area for horse-drawn trains from 1883, for which a wooden shed was built. This was replaced 17 years later by a solid hall, as until then only the Sachsenhausen depot had been available to the electric tramway. Additional stabling capacity became necessary, however, as on 01.02.1900 both the "east-west line" Bockenheimer Warte - Hanauer Bahnhof and the line through Alt-Sachsenhausen were electrified and further A-cars had to be accommodated and supplied.

The depot's track system underwent several modifications over the course of time, including the turning loop in the grounds. Special feature: Due to the cramped conditions, there was a transfer table in the side hall with which wagons could be distributed to individual work stands.
