Special trains on the A line from Frankfurt to the Taunus

This summer is peppered with anniversaries. After the use of historic streetcars on the occasion of the HSF summer festival on the grounds of the Transport Museum, next Sunday, 29 June, it's the turn of vintage streetcars. In cooperation with Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt (VGF), the "Historische Straßenbahn der Stadt Frankfurt am Main e. V." association is celebrating the 115th anniversary of the route of today's U3 line in Oberursel.

Although the U3 light rail line has only been in operation since 1978 (from 1971 to 1978, Mt cars were already running as the A3), the lines to Oberursel and Bad Homburg already existed before the subway era: Frankfurter Lokalbahn AG (FLAG) and Städtische Straßenbahn opened the suburban line from Frankfurt to Oberursel in 1910. In the same year, they signed a contract for joint operation and integration into the Frankfurt line network. There have been tracks in Oberursel since 1899, with steam locomotives initially pulling passenger and freight trains. One of the two original locomotives is preserved in the Transport Museum. Incidentally, freight traffic to the former industrial town only ended in 1983 and coexisted with the suburban trains (V-trains) operated by FLAG and the municipal tramway. These can be viewed at selected events in the east hall of the Transport Museum.

To mark the 115th anniversary of the local line to Oberursel, this coming Sunday, June 29, from around 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., historic light rail trains will reinforce the U3 line between Südbahnhof in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen and Oberursel-Hohemark. The trains will run every hour (every 60 minutes). U2h cars (built in 1968) and U3 cars (built in 1979) are expected to be used.

From 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., historic streetcars run on this route every 60 minutes:

Oberursel-Hohemark <> Oberursel Bahnhof <> Heddernheim <> Hauptwache/Zeil <> Frankfurt Südbahnhof

Use of vehicles:
The U2h cars (built in 1968) and the U3 cars (built in 1979) will probably be used.

Current streetcar timetable:

All you need to travel on the historic trains is an RMV ticket valid for Frankfurt or the Germany ticket is required. The vehicles are not barrier-free and do not have a designated parking area for bicycles. To avoid blocked escape routes, which could save lives in an emergency, bicycles are not permitted on the historic vehicles.

There may be operational deviations from the route as well as from the timetable and vehicle deployment!
